Preparing your home to sell

There are several things that need to be addressed when selling your home. Curb appeal and deferred or neglected maintenance.

Sometimes it is hard to see your own home as an outsider will. That is where I can come in and discuss small and medium priced improvements that make your home stand out. Below are some items that can be discussed.

Remember, First Impressions Are Everything.

Curb Appeal:

  • Make sure the lawn is watered, mown and edged
  • Trees and shrubs are trimmed (can you see your house or is the front overgrown by shrubs?)
  • Sidewalks and driveway is stain free and sidewalk is free of tripping hazards
  • Paint or Stain the front door and add new hardware
  • Make sure the doorbell works and install a new cover
  • Add some overflowing flower baskets at the entry steps or beside front door
  • New door mat
  • New front entry light

Deferred Maintenance:

  • Windows and screens washed. All broken/fogged glass addressed and torn screens repaired
  • Pressure wash home if it needs it
  • Clean Gutters, make sure downspouts are all attached
  • Make sure all light fixtures work and burned out bulbs replaced
  • Make sure no faucets leak
  • Patch any holes in walls from pictures, etc.

Interior Refresh:

  • Do a deep clean, don’t forget the baseboards
  • Professionally have the carpets and tile floors cleaned
  • Update Faucets
  • Update kitchen cabinet hardware.
  • Wipe away smudges on walls and baseboards and door jambs.
